Video conferencing
Video conferencing is the use of audio and video equipment to link geographically dispersed persons so they can see and communicate with each other face-to-face, whether to discuss business, share ideas or work together on some project. Video conferencing is generally used by businesses to conduct quick, low cost and convenient face-to-face meetings with employees and participants at distant locations. A
video-conference is also popular as a method for a single teacher to educate a large number of classrooms or for medical professionals to discuss cases and demonstrate techniques.
Video-conference equipment provides both sound and picture, and so participants can see and hear each other. Generally, participants gather in relatively expensive rooms specially designed and equipped to facilitate simultaneous video and audio transmission. A video conference can also be conducted using equipment such as video cameras or webcams to transmit videos of participants and projectors or monitors to receive and display them, mics and loudspeakers to transmit and broadcast audio, and a high-speed broadband Internet connection for fast video and audio transfer.
There are three possible
video conferencing configurations. The first one is one way video and audio, where video and audio signals are sent from a single transmitting site to one or more receiving sites. This is a good way for a manager or a team leader to give information and orders to team members or subordinates at remote locations. The second type is the one way video and two way audio conference, where people at the receiving sites can talk to people at the transmitting site while only video images are only broadcast from the transmitting site. The final type of video conference is the two way video and audio conference, where video and audio communications between all participating sites are two way. Although this is the most effective type of video conferencing, it is also the most expensive.
