San Francisco is Thankful for Its Own Art Angel
The arts are a very delicate thing in any society because not everyone understands how crucial they are to the world. Not everyone knows how a single image, a single sculpture or great work of non traditional visual art can go on to trigger greatness in just one person who ends up being capable of truly affecting positive change in our world.
Dede Wilsey really does understand that and she has used her power and position in San Francisco's upper crust society to wield a high level of influence that is remarkably transparent. She has protected the arts and made it her mission in life to give something back, not merely take what directly benefits her. Her firm belief that the arts are a necessary part of a truly refined and civilized society has lead her to valiantly support the construction of a new de Young Museum in San Francisco after the old museum was damaged by an earthquake years ago. Once she decided to dedicate herself, she left no stone unturned in her quest to create the best possible structure to house some of the world's finest works of art.
This pure, distilled determination and rightness of purpose has lead this woman towards her achievement despite a huge number of set backs and even a lack of support from the city's voters. Instead of beriding those who did not wish to support such a structure,
Dede Wilsey held her conviction and began to move about her well known society of massively rich patrons. She identified and personally worked with over 7,000 different donors to get the funding needed to build the museum. All of this took place after she put over ten million of her own wealth towards the museum and this gave her donors confidence that she believed in the project more than anyone else.
